Summer Camp a huge Success

Image-1The annual summer camp was again bursting at the seams with 19 players. On 9 tables whizzing the ball backwards and forwards over 5 six hour for 5  days. Apologies to those we had to refuse due to lack of space.

Conn led the camp for the first three days ,working on the technical details, with service practice first thing when the players arrived.

We welcomed two new  members in Conor O Callaghan and Paddy Vaughan. We wish them every success .

Colum Slevin joined us for the final two days of camp, sharing many little tips with every player. The players certainly responded  very positively. Colum also managed to improve the technique of our elite squad with quality multiball .

At the end of the five day camp Conn thanked the players for their exemplary intensity and commitment during the week. He also thanked Colum for joining us again this year. Colum expressed his delight at coming and said he really enjoyed working in such a great atmosphere and wished all well for the coming season.

We wish Conn well as he travels to the Euro Mini Championships  in Strasbourg next weekend.

Exciting times for Ballincollig TTC

It has been a busy few weeks for coach Conn Higgins.

He travelled to Angby Sweden, with a group of Irish players including Adam Buckley and Alan Walsh, who was assisting with the coaching in Angby.

Alan led the coaching in one of the groups and was a natural. The young French,Danes and Swedes  responded very well to him.

While in Angby Alan signed up to play with Angby club in this season’s Swedish National League.

Coach Conn says this is a great opportunity for Alan to showcase his talent and learn and develop his game.

Conn and Alan then moved on to Eslov in southern Sweden, one of Sweden’s top clubs and runners up in the Champions League.

A week’s intense training with Romania’s best and the cream of Swedish talent  under the watchful eye of one of the world’s top coaches, Peter Sartz was a fantastic learning experience for Alan as a player and Conn as a coach.

Ciaran O’Donoghue, Cian Ross, Jack O’ Keeffe, Ryan Power and David Manning, all members  of club, were competing for Scoil Eoin in the Primary Schools section.  The first round was against a very tough team from Connacht, Manulla school had won the All Ireland title for the last two years. The Ballincollig boys lead 3-1 in the singles and needed just one more win going into the doubles. Unfortunately they lost these games, the score was 3-3. Next was the super doubles it was up to Cian and Ciaran. After some nail bitting table tennis. Shane will agree with this. Scoil Eoin  were the winners. Next was Ulster. David Manning replaced Ryan Power for this round. The boys played brilliantly winning 6-0. The final province was Leinster. Scoil Eoin only needed 4 out of 6 games to win the All Ireland Title. Ciaran lost the first game. 0-1. Cian, Jack and Ryan held their cool and won their games. 3-1. Next it was Ciaran and Ryan in doubles. This game was a great display of teamwork and some fabulous table tennis. The boys won. Scoil Eoin were All Ireland Champions with Shane O’ Connor (Scoil Eoin past pupil and All Ireland primary school winner) coaching along side Ivan Shorton.

For Colaiste Choilm Sam Murphy and Olan Lehane played on the under 19 boys team. These were very tough games against top class players the boys came 4th.
