Busy Schedule for BTTC

SOUTH COAST SCHOOL LEAGUE

A number of our players took part in this league  representing their schools. Colaiste Choilm sent 4 teams with 3 winning their divisions and the fourth team coming third in theirs. On the first division team 3/4 players were from the club Jack O’ Keeffe, Ryan Power and Ciaran O’ Donoghue. Greg Barrett and David Manning were on the second division team. Ciaran Cotter was also on the fourth division team. Oisin Herberich player in the first division with Kinsale Community School.

ULSTER OPEN

The Ulster Open took place in Lisburn on the 25th/27th of November. Players from all over Ireland took part in this tournment. The club had a number of players taking part. There was mix results with some very close games not going our players way. A few of our players had to play each other in group stages with only the winner of group going through or at quarter final level.  Shane O’ Connor reached the semi final of the restricted singles. Dylan Grace played a very inform Thomas Joyce in the under 18 semi and lost in a thrilling match. A lot was learnt by our players both on and off the table.

IN HOUSE TOURNMENT

The club ran an exciting in house tournment on the 2nd of December. With a lot of our competitive players away in Dublin at a National training camp it was the turn of the newer members to learn how a tournment was run, how to keep score and have a lot of fun. Kevin Walsh and Abbie O’ Donovan won their division. Thanks to coach Shane O’ Connor for showing them the ropes.

 

South West 400 – Kinsale

Last weekend the second South West 400 took place in St. Multose hall, Kinsale. Ballincollig Table Tennis Club had 6 players taking part. The event was run on a team formate. Robert Danilovskiy and James Kingston played in the 2nd division and this formate was new to both players an dthey gain some great experience. David Manning and Ryan Power, in the first division, were narrowly beaten in the final and came second . Erik Ollson and Ciaran O’ Donoghue won the premier divison.

 

Ballincollig players top Junior and Cadet Boys

Last weekend the Munster Classification took place in Beech Hill Table Tennis Club. Saturday morning started at 11.30 with the under 18’s. Ballincollig Table Tennis Club had 5 players taking part, Filip Gnyszka, Adam Buckley, Erik Ollson, Ciaran O’ Donoghue and Oisin Herberich. After some great matches BTTC were delighted to have 4 of our players in the semi finals. Filip V Erik, Adam V Ciaran.  In the finals it was Ciaran V Erik and Adam V Filip in3/4 playoffs. Ciaran came 1st on this occasion with Erik 2nd, Adam 3rd and Filip 4th. Oisin won the plate. A great result for all.

Next up was the seniors event. Filip, Oisin, Erik and Ciaran took part joined by Shane O’ Connor. In the semi final  Erik V Shane. Erik played out of his skin in a highly competitive game. Erik won and was into the final. This was Erik’s first time taking part in the senior event. He was unfortunately beaten in the final. Shane came fourth playing Philip Shaw in 3/4 playoff.

Our elder statesman Dan Foley took part in the veterans event. We were delighted when Dan came second to Philip Shaw of Beech Hill table Tennis Club.

 On Sunday Ballincollig Table Tennis Club Had players compete in the under 15 and 13 events. Ciaran, Adam and Erik along with Cian Ross, David Manning,  Jake Adler and Robert Danilovskiy were in the u15s. It was Roberts 2nd munster ranking event and he gained valuable experience. Erik was beaten by Adam in the quarter finals. Cian lost in the quarters also. The club had Adam V Jake and Ciaran V Issac Leahy ,a South Coast player, in the semi finals. The finals line up was Ciaran V Adam, Jake V Issac. The results were Ciaran !st, Adam 2nd, Jake 3rd. David was the winner of the plate.

For the under 13 Dylan Adler and James Kingston were carrying the Ballincollig flag. James reached the last 16 stage in only his 2nd Munster ranking event. Dylan fought hard and came 6th.

The weekend had some great results for the club with the top 4 winners in under 18 , top 3 in under 15, plus plate winners.  Second and fourth in seniors and seconded in vets. 6th in under 13s

South West 400 – Kinsale report

Last weekend saw the first Munster event take place in Kinsale. The South West 400 is a new tournament with a more relaxed feeling for our players. Sunday morning saw Ryan Power, Glen Buckley, James Kingston, David Manning, Robert Danilovskiy, Erik Ollson, Oisin Herberich and Ciaran O’ Donoghue take to the tables. David Manning was narrowly beaten in the quarter finals. Erik and Ciaran played each other in one semi-final. The match went to 5 sets with both players giving their all. Erik was the victor and played South coast player Nick McCloud in the final. Erik was on a roll and won very comfortably 4-0. Ciaran bet Donnagh Griffin in the 3/4 playoff.

The Leinster Classification also took place and Ballincollig had Richard Thompson, and Paddy Vaughan taking part. Richard took 3rd place in the Under 18s beating club mate Paddy Vaughan and 3rd place in the under 15s.

Best of luck to Alan Walsh and Juniors in Irish Camp

A number of our players are taking part in a National train camp this weekend. Best of luck to Adam, Erik, Conor, Cian, Ciaran, Paddy, Dylan, Richard, Jake.

Also, best of luck to  Alan Walsh who is competing in the German Table Tennis League this weekend.

Open Day – All welcome

Ballincollig Table Tennis Club will be holding an open session on the 9th of September at 11am -1pm in the Community Hall, Station Road, Ballincollig. So if you or your child are interested in table tennis come down and give it a try.

New and exciting year ahead – Senior classification

On the 27th of August the Senior Classification took place in the National Indoor Arena. Two BTTC members took part. Dylan Grace and Alan Walsh reached the quarter finals, however were defeated by Irish International players Paul McCreery and Gavin McGuire.

 

 

Busy time for Ballincollig players

While the local season comes to an end, some of our players are participating in international events.

At the end of May Ciaran O Donoghue was selected to compete at the Prague Grand Prix,where he reached the last 16 in the singles event.

A week later Dylan Grace performed at the prestigious World Junior Circuit event with coach Conn Higgins..

Dylan had a notable win against the highly ranked Tonkovic(Cze) and narrowly missed out on a spot in the last 32.

In early June Conor O’Callaghan and Paddy Vaughan travel to the para events at the Spanish and German Opens.

At the end of June Ciaran and Dylan will represent the Irish schools at the senior international schools event in Jersey.

Congratulations to Shane O’Connor who will coach the cadet boys while Conn will be busy coaching both the cadet girls and senior boys.

Mixed results as Nationals

Last weekend a number of Ballincollig Table Tennis Club’s players took part in the Junior National Championship in the New National Indoor Arena in Dublin. This is the last National event of the season and is the most prestigious events of the year.

 The under 18’s was the first event to begin on Saturday with Dylan, Oisin, Conor, Paddy and Ciaran taking part. Dylan lost in the quarter finals after a great battle to Thomas Earley. Conor and Ciaran meet in the semi final of the plate, Ciaran winning on this occasion. Ciaran went on to to win the plate. Nora was our only repersentative in the girls events, she played well in a very strong group of players. 

Next was Cian and Adam in the under 13 event, the two players had to replay their last 16 match which was very tough on both players as Cian had won his previous last 16 game and was about to play in the quarter finals. They then lost these games.

A new event took part this year the doubles. This was a great event all of our 3 teams reached the quarter finals.

On Sunday first up was the under 15’s. Adam, Cian, Richard, Issac and Ciaran. All players played very well and got through their groups. Ciaran made it to the semi final which he lost to Thomas Joyce. Ciaran came 3rd.

Conor and Paddy were in the Para event. Both players made it to the final with Paddy coming home with the gold medal and Conor silver.

Thanks to all parents who were there supporting the players. Thanks also to head coach Conn Higgins and to Alan and Dylan for helping Conn.

Next event is the UCC ranking on the 1st/2nd of April in the Mardyke Arena.

Cian makes Irish team

Ballincollig Table Tennis Club is delighted that one of our players, Cian Ross, has been chosen to represent Ireland at the Primary Schools International in Cardiff on the 7th – 9th of April. Cian has been playing table tennis for over 5 years. He started playing in Scoil Eoin, who have a great history of winning Munster and All Ireland Schools events. Cian was part of the team who won the All Ireland last year in Dublin. He also played for Munster at the interpros in Dublin last year and is hoping to be on the team again this year. This year has been a great one for Cian. He won his first under 13 Munster event in Kinsale against his club mate Adam. He also won the Ballincollig Ranking at the start of March in Colaiste Choilm. It’s great to win your home event. He came Third in the Ulster Open in Belfast, his first All Ireland trophy and at the Connacht Open, another all Ireland event, in February he was determined to win and he did. Cian has also taking part at the National training camps. We wish Cian all the best in Cardiff.
