Irish training camp call up

Congratulations to Colm Murphy and Niall Brown who have been called up to national training camps in Dublin over the next couple of weeks. Best of luck lads!

High praise for our coach !!!!

A recent news article in the Cork Evening Echo has been highly positive about the impact that our new coach Dave Buckley has had on the players and club. Dave is working to rebuild the membership and player skills. Recent results from the early part of the season have been recognised. In his efforts Dave is being helped by Alex Cooney and Declan McGrath. Keep up the good work Dave!

Happy Christmas

The club committee would like to thank everyone for their help and support throughout this past year. A special thanks to Colaiste Choilm and Scoil Eoin for their continued support of table tennis and our club. A very special thank you to all our sponsors, and especially to the children and parents.

Happy Christmas to everyone !

National Team Tournament

Well done to the Ballincollig team of Ian Browne, Alex Cooney, Colm Murphy and Shane O’Connor for their performance at the National team tournament in Dublin yesterday.

It proved to be a very long day for the team and coach Dave Buckley. The team were taking part in the division 1 section. In the end it came down to the last match of the day against Club Donic to decide the Div 1 title. BTTC needed just 2 matches to be crowned champions but it proved to be a bridge too far on this occasion loosing 3-0.

The competition proved to be good fun and experience for everyone and a special thanks to our coach Dave.

News from Killarney Open

Killarney Junior and Senior Open – 3 November

Last Saturday 10 Ballincollig TTC players travelled with Coach Dave Buckley to St Mary’s Church Hall, Killarney, to compete in the 2nd Munster Ranking of the season. They had an early start but all the junior players were rearing to go with the U14s being first on the table. Niall Brown, Auryn Harrington Darren Bolton and Adrian Tsang all played extremely well in the opening rounds with Niall overcoming James Barry from Kinneigh 3-2 in the semi-final before losing out to Goleen’s James Kelly the final. In the U14 girls event, Leah Daly played very well to finish in the quarter final. It must be mentioned that though Adrian Tsang has been a club member for some time, this was his first Munster Ranking and we hope he enjoyed the experience.

In the U17 girls event, Chloe Brown brought home a beautiful clock having finished as runner up in the plate. Leah once again reached the quarter final stage having sailed through the opening rounds.

We had 5 boys in the U17 event, Auryn, Adrian, Darren, Colm Murphy and Shane O’Connor. Shane finished the day in the last 16 after narrowly losing in the 5th set to the eventual runner up James Kelly. Colm finished in 3rd place after losing out to Killarney’s Michael Lagan in the semi final.

The junior part of the competition ended with Niall Brown bringing home the Gold in the boys U12. He made light work of Kevin Brown from Tralee before beating Adam Lazarev from Cobh to take the U12 Boys title.

And the day was not over yet! The senior competition got underway with Alex Cooney finishing the day as a semi-finalist in both Senior and U21 competitions. Colm also bowed out in the U21 semi final and Shane won the U21 plate. Coach Dave finished 5th in the Senior Mens competition. The evening belonged to Ian Brown though. He won both the U21 and Senior Mens event having overcome Leeside’s Alan Walsh in the finals.

Another fantastic day for Ballincollig Table Tennis Club. Thanks to Killarney Table Tennis Club for hosting the event, to the parents who travelled to Killarney for the day and especially to coach Dave Buckley.

Club Donic Training Camp – Dublin

Three BTTC players were invited to attend a training camp in Dublin last week, hosted by Club Donic and Irish Senior National Champion, John Murphy. Special thanks to the familys who housed our lads for the week.

Niall Brown, Colm Murphy and Shane O’Connor played alongside Irish International players for 3 days of intensive training. They returned to Ballincollig full of enthusiasm for the season ahead and look forward to their next Club Donic camp in the coming months
