Mixed results as Nationals

Last weekend a number of Ballincollig Table Tennis Club’s players took part in the Junior National Championship in the New National Indoor Arena in Dublin. This is the last National event of the season and is the most prestigious events of the year.

The under 18’s was the first event to begin on Saturday with Dylan, Oisin, Conor, Paddy and Ciaran taking part. Dylan lost in the quarter finals after a great battle to Thomas Earley. Conor and Ciaran meet in the semi final of the plate, Ciaran winning on this occasion. Ciaran went on to to win the plate. Nora was our only repersentative in the girls events, she played well in a very strong group of players.

Next was Cian and Adam in the under 13 event, the two players had to replay their last 16 match which was very tough on both players as Cian had won his previous last 16 game and was about to play in the quarter finals. They then lost these games.

A new event took part this year the doubles. This was a great event all of our 3 teams reached the quarter finals.

On Sunday first up was the under 15’s. Adam, Cian, Richard, Issac and Ciaran. All players played very well and got through their groups. Ciaran made it to the semi final which he lost to Thomas Joyce. Ciaran came 3rd.

Conor and Paddy were in the Para event. Both players made it to the final with Paddy coming home with the gold medal and Conor silver.

Thanks to all parents who were there supporting the players. Thanks also to head coach Conn Higgins and to Alan and Dylan for helping Conn.

Next event is the UCC ranking on the 1st/2nd of April in the Mardyke Arena.
