Busy Weekend for Ballincollig

IMG_20150524_161142The weekend of May 23rd and 24th saw the Annual Ballincollig Closed take place on Saturday and 10 players competed in the Munster challenger event in Kinsale.

Alan Walsh wins club championship

In band one the top six played off in a round robin style.some very close battles were fought between Ian Brown and Darragh Buckley, Shane OConnor and Alex Cooney.Veteran Dan Foley proved a little tricky too but Alan proved himself undisputed champion remaining undefeated in all games.

In band two eight  players competed in two pools of four.2 qualified from each group to the semi finals where Sam Murphy was beaten by Nora  O Sullivan and Ciaran ODonoghue beat Cian Ross.In a repeat of last year,s decider Ciaran defeated Nora to claim the band two Championship

In band three Skrmantas Mockus won the round robin of 5 with Sean Barrett second

The club player of the year was awarded to Shane O Connor and Darragh Buckley for their huge commitment and support to head coach Conn Higgins and their help at all the junior tournaments this season

The most improved player award went to the hardworking Filip Gynazka

The club doubles saw Shane and Darragh in their club shirts defeat Alan and Conn in their Irish shirts. The home crowd cheered on the Ballincollig club shirts naturally.

3 TITLES  FOR BALLINCOLLIG. PLAYERS   AT  MUNSTER CHALLENGER

A great day for our younger players.

In Division 1 Ciaran O’Donoghue was very impressive winning all ten matches though he survived a great challenge from Nick McLeod in the semi final and defeated Thy Li in the final.

In division two Filip Gynazska showed wonderful  composure. He defeated Sean Leisk in the semi final and reversed an earlier defeat by Tom Good to claim the title. Ryan Power showed great form too reaching the semi final only to lose to Tom Good.

Jack O Keeffe claimed the third title for BTTC winning all his 10 matches defeating David Lordan in the final.

Training continues for the Scoil Eoin players until June 16th.

Many thanks to our club coach Conn Higgins for his tremendous work with all our players this season. Everyone is already looking forward to the new season which kicks off in August.
