Ross 5th, Walsh & O’Donoghue reach quarter finals

At the National Junior Table Tennis Championships in the Basketball Arena 5 Ballincollig players sought to improve on their Irish ranking positions.
Alan Walsh currently no.4 was hoping to reach his first National final of the season in his last junior tournament.
Cian Ross was playing in his first National tournament.
Ciaran O Donoghue was hoping to better his fifth position in the boys u.13.
Niall Browne was aiming for a top ten finish as was Nora O Sullivan in the U.15 category.

U18 Boys Event

Alan defeated Eric Shackelton (Fivemiletown) 3/0 Zak Earley  (Ormeau) 3/1 and Trevor Tobin(Kinneigh) 3/0 setting up a showdown with Frenchbased Alexander Gillen
In a pulsating battle which ebbed and flowed it went to the deciding 5th set where Gillen won on an 11/8 scoreline.

U15 Boys event

Ciaran advanced from his first round group but was defeated in the second round group. Niall won his opening game but unfortunately lost his two remaining games to exit the tournament at first round stage.

U15 girls

Nora defeated Hannah Proudfoot 3/2 and Srujana 3/0 to advance to the round 2 group where she fought a close battle with Zofia Wawzyniak 1/3 and lost to Jessie Hayes 1/3.

U13 Boys

Cian and Ciaran advanced to round 2 of the competition after some good wins
In round 2 Ciaran defeated Michael Atunwa and Nick McLeod to advance to the last 16 where he beat Eric Ollsen. In the quarter final he lost out to Irish no.1 Thomas Joyce.

Congratulations to Cian Ross who showed impressive form in finishing fifth in his first ever Nationals
