Top marks to brothers Ian and Niall Brown at the Munster open national ranking event held at the INEC Killarney last weekend. Ian was the winner of the U21 and runner up in the class II event eventaully losing to Kevin Devaney. Ian beat clubmate Alex Cooney in the under U21 final. Niall finished 3rd in the U12 event and thereby further strengthening his Irish ranking position.
Our under 17 boys only advanced to the second round on this occasion. Shane O’Connor played very well but was unlucky to be drawn against the eventual winner of the event Li Shiazhao. Colm Murphy was not able to repeat his Ulster success and paid the price for finishing second in his first round group. He went out to Conor Mullally in round two.
Auryn Harrington got great experience in his first national ranking event and played well in the U14 and U17 events.
Ian, Alex, Colm and Shane also played in the seniors event on Friday night. They all had some tough matches and did not progress.
In all it was a very successfull event for the small number of players from Ballincollig who atteneded.
